Some encounters in life last only for a moment, while others leave a lasting impact forever.

For Fatima Lalla, those unforgettable people were the mentors she met at Seattle Beauty Academy, a trusted beauty school Seattle students choose to pursue their passion and build a future in the beauty industry.

Her instructors were more than teachers — they came into her life at exactly the moment she needed guidance, support, and encouragement the most.

Arriving in a new country with everything to learn

When Fatima first arrived in the United States, she describes the experience the way many immigrants do: everything felt unfamiliar, overwhelming, and difficult. A new language. A new system. A new life to build from the ground up — without the safety net of family nearby, without the comfort of a place that already felt like home.

She looked for a beauty school in Seattle and finally enrolled at Seattle Beauty Academy to build a career. What she didn’t know yet was that she was also about to find a community.

“To me, my teachers were not only instructors,” she wrote, “but also the very first mentors I had when I arrived in the United States.”

What dedication really looks like

Ask most people what makes a great teacher, and they’ll talk about knowledge, patience, communication. All of that matters. But Fatima noticed something rarer.

She noticed what her instructors did when no one required them to do anything at all.

There were students who had no car and didn’t know the way to the testing center on exam day. Their instructor drove them — waking up at four or five in the morning to make sure no one missed their opportunity. Not because it was in the job description. Because it was the right thing to do, and someone decided to do it.

There were students going through difficult times — unemployed, struggling financially, far from the people who would normally show up for them. Their instructor cooked meals and invited everyone to sit down and eat together. A small gesture that meant something enormous to people who were feeling very far from home.

“These acts may seem small to some people,” Fatima writes. “But for those of us living far from home, they meant warmth, kindness, and humanity that we will never forget.”

She’s right that they might seem small. She’s also right that they aren’t.

The highest scores in the Washington state — and a beauty school that feels like family

Seattle Beauty Academy is serious about results. Fatima notes it directly: this is the school with the highest exam scores in the state of Washington. The instructors are professional, focused, and deeply committed to preparing students for licensure.

But step outside the classroom, and the atmosphere shifts. Holiday gatherings mixed into the school calendar. Shared meals. A warmth that Fatima describes simply as feeling like part of a family.

For international students — for anyone who has ever sat in a new country and felt the particular loneliness of being surrounded by people but known by none of them — that matters more than any brochure can express. It is the difference between getting through the program and actually belonging somewhere while you do it.

“During holidays, there were always meals and small gatherings mixed in with our studies,”

Fatima says. “Those moments made people like us — living far away from home — feel cared for, supported, and a little less lonely in a foreign country.”

The day she held her diploma

Graduation day arrived. Fatima held her diploma in her hands.

The moment it became official. Fatima receiving her framed Washington State cosmetology license at Seattle Beauty Academy.

She was happy — genuinely, deeply happy — because she had completed the first important step in her new journey. A Washington State license. A career to build. A future that was now fully hers to shape.

And she was also sad.

“I also felt sad knowing that I would no longer see my teachers every day.”

That sentence — so honest, so human — captures something about Seattle Beauty Academy that no marketing copy could manufacture. When your graduation feels like a loss as much as a triumph, not because the experience was hard but because it was genuinely good, you know you were somewhere special.

What you actually receive here

Fatima doesn’t hesitate when people ask where they should study.

“If anyone asks me where they should study, I would never hesitate to recommend this place. Because here, you do not only gain knowledge — you also find kindness, compassion, and a sense of community among people from the same homeland.”

And then she says the thing that the whole experience comes down to:

“Sometimes the most valuable thing you receive is not just a diploma, but the people who make you feel loved and no longer alone in a foreign land.”

This is what we mean

At Seattle Beauty Academy, we offer beauty programs in Cosmetology, Hair Design, Barber, Manicure, Esthetics, Master Esthetics, and Instructor Training — with bilingual instruction available in Vietnamese and Spanish.

We are proud of our pass rates. We are proud of our curriculum. We are proud of the careers our graduates go on to build.

But what we are most proud of is something harder to measure: the fact that students like Fatima leave here with more than a license. They leave with mentors. With memories. With a community of people who showed up for them — at 4am if that’s what it took.

That’s not a policy. It’s just who we are.
